Kīlauea Update, Friday, July 6, 2018, Of Topical Interest: PLEASE. Print and Read Carefully.

After a clear-all-day yesterday, hot and sunny, a front came bringing breezy showery weathers.  Maybe a good day to study A Very Important Document.  If not today, then please, this weekend.

Our friends at the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO), and University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa have published Reports:

COOPERATOR REPORT TO: HAWAI`I VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
Preliminary Analysis of Current Explosion Hazards at the Summit of Kīlauea Volcano
Kyle Anderson, Don Swanson, Larry Mastin, Christina Neal
U.S. Geological Survey
Bruce Houghton
University of Hawaii Manoa

And a Very Important Updated Report:

COOPERATOR REPORT TO HAWAI`I VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
Volcanic Hazard at the Summit of Kīlauea: June 29, 2018
Update
U.S. Geological Survey

Reports such as these are written, reviewed, and issued with care.  They are a result of rigorous observation, discussion, thought, research, and understanding.  They are sobering.  Note that they were written after Pelehonuamea began her big project at Kaluapele, the summit caldera of Kīlauea.  The June 29, 2018 Report was issued yesterday, after what I believe were weeks of review and editing.

The Reports are carefully worded.  They are worded with care.  Thought full care.  Know, understand, and believe that.  I do.  All of the authors care.  They are intimately familiar with Kīlauea and the workings of Pele.  Some of them live here.  I know and trust all of them.

The Reports present various scenarios, some of which we may find alarming.  It is our job as citizens to be informed, to be thoughtful, to try to understand possibility, and to act according to accurate information.

We are living in the home of Pele.  This is her domain.  We need to understand that life is unpredictable.  Everywhere.  Maybe here itʻs a lot more dramatic, but all natural phenomena are unpredictable.  Thatʻs life.

I understand that this is sounding preachy.  But with all the crap on social "media", there comes a time when everyone needs to take a deep deep breath, and try to understand, as unemotionally as possible, informed reality.

So...  Read.  Learn.  Read again.  Think.  Talk with friends and family.  Be informed.

Thatʻs it for today.  At Kaluapele and at Keahialaka, oia mau nō (continuing the same).

If any thing in The Reports perplex, confuse, or confound, please ask me questions via email, and Iʻll try my best to answer:
