Kaluapele

On the Island of Hawaiʻi, Kaluapele (the pit of pele or Pele) crowns the summit region of the volcano Kīlauea.

Kilauea Update, May 6, 2018, 7:30am

Good morning!!!

Happy to be here after a rest full night!

"Pele mā" refers to what we would say Pele folks.
People who accompany her.  One of whom, according to some, is
Kānepōhakukaʻa (Kane-rolling-stones, or The-earthquake-maker).  He was
extremely prominent in my Mauna Loa Estates neighborhood yesterday
from 406pm to 801pm, making 18 earthquakes, most of which were felt.
Theyʻre shown on one of the attached.  Iʻll be writing more about that
event later when I have more time.

Those eqs were apparently related to the ongoing notable deflation of
the summit region of Kilauea.  HMM is still dropping.

On the ERZ, the eruption continues.  PG cam shows fume, and likely
fire from burning structures (the black or dark smoke).  I also noted
(and I may be wrong) fume issuing uprift of Kaliu, the puu on the
horizon more or less in the middle of the view.  A new fissure last
night in Leilani made fountains up to 270ʻ high.  Again, for a sense
of where this all may be headed, look at the 1955 USGS Macdonald
report.  We may be in for a long ride.

Look at the attachments.  If you have topics of interest or want
clarification about something, ask.  No shame.

Iʻll be out today till 3p or so.  Will check in then.

Stay safe.
